Choose the collaboration model that fits your research horizon and technology maturity
Fraunhofer FOKUS works with partners across different time horizons and Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs): from multi-year collaborative research to focused industrial R&D and immediately available experimentation infrastructure.
From long-term research to immediately available testbeds.
Choose the collaboration horizon and TRL that fit the problem you want to solve.
Long-term research typically runs for two to five years and is often carried out within programs such as ESA, SNS JU, BMFTR and other national or European research initiatives. These projects address new concepts, architectures, protocols, algorithms and technologies and can progress from early research toward implementation and validation.
Short-term research and commissioned R&D usually start from a concrete industrial problem or standardization question. The work may include investigating alternative technical approaches, implementing and comparing solutions, integrating prototypes, and producing experimental evidence that supports technical and standardization decisions.
Testbed deployments provide a faster route when the required capabilities largely already exist. Open6GCore and other FOKUS components can be configured, adapted and integrated into a project-specific end-to-end testbed for deployment, interoperability work, validation and trials.
For the shortest path, partners can use the existing FOKUS 5G/6G experimentation infrastructure directly. This enables projects to start quickly with available RAN, core, transport, edge/cloud, device, observability and measurement capabilities for experiments, integration, validation and pilots.
The collaboration model can therefore be selected according to research objective, available starting point, required time horizon and TRL.
