Start further ahead and reach validated results faster
Fraunhofer FOKUS helps research and industry partners turn 5G/6G research ideas, algorithms and technologies into implementations that can be integrated and validated in realistic experimentation environments.
Open6GCore gives new projects access to software, interfaces, integrations, testbed components and experimental capabilities accumulated across previous research activities. These assets provide a practical foundation for building the project-specific 5G/6G experimentation environment required for implementation, integration, measurement, and validation.
Projects can start from a research question, architecture, algorithm, existing software, prototype, third-party technology, or an established testbed. Fraunhofer FOKUS combines these elements with Open6GCore capabilities and extends the environment according to the research objectives.
Bring your research questions, technology, or existing prototypes. We help create the environment required to turn it into validated 5G/6G results.
FOKUS contributions include:
- Translating research concepts into executable system architectures
- Implementing new network functions, procedures and interfaces
- Integrating project software and third-party technologies
- Bringing algorithms from simulation into running 5G/6G systems
- Connecting RAN, core, transport, edge/cloud, NTN, devices and applications
- Creating project-specific end-to-end experimentation environments
- Adding observability, measurement and experiment control
- Solving complex cross-domain integration challenges
- Validating technologies and research approaches under controlled and realistic conditions
- Developing demonstrators and preparing larger trials
The value comes from the combination of flexible, source code-available, reusable Open6GCore technology, existing experimental infrastructure, and Fraunhofer FOKUS researchers with experience across the complete mobile network system.
This allows project resources to focus on the new research contribution while Fraunhofer FOKUS provides and extends the experimentation environment in which it can be implemented, integrated, and validated.
