Automatization for Complex Systems
The only way to progress towards the management of more complex networks is through automation. In the context of 6G, automation presumes the development of a new abstraction layer able to make decisions in a holistic manner. The current system where decisions are taken separately for different parts of the network is not able to provide anymore the appropriate response to specific triggers because any adaptation is propagating to other parts of the system which need new adaptations and so on, maintaining the system in a continuous unstable state.
Furthermore, the current policy-based management system is highly narrowed in scope, each policy having individual triggers. Instead, a more holistic approach addressing the complete system adaptation would be required, including:
- Intent-based definition of the Service Layer Agreements (SLAs) – expressing the qualities that the system would provide to the subscribers.
- Automatic root cause analysis detection – understanding from the different events reporting that the system is progressing towards an abnormal state
- Comprehensive system correction selection – a holistic solution aiming to bring back the system to the expected SLAs based on the current momentary status of the system and on the detected abnormal state
- System treatment – definition of a comprehensive set of actions to be automatically executed in a specific order. Definition of new treatments and their trialing in live systems to enable a better response to further anomaly detections.
