Our research activities include initial presentations of the possibilities offered by new technologies. We offer innovation and intellectual property protection, design and specification, including the development of practical prototypes in a comprehensive testing environment.
In addition, we offer qualitative and quantitative evaluations and intuitive demonstrations, algorithms and optimizations, as well as integration and interoperability.

Our projects are very diverse in terms of time to market (from new technologies to product prototypes) as well as duration and resources required. This applies to both direct projects and projects involving a large number of partners. We are currently actively seeking project partners for a variety of research topics based on the topics presented under “Research Directions”. Open6GCore is available under a paid licensing model.

• The most common and best flexibility model is that of source code license for internal use.
• Lower cost binary-only options are available.
• On the upper range, Open6GCore modules code may be licensed even for inclusion within commercial products.

We are happy to assist you in setting up your comprehensive test environment. Whether you need additional devices such as 5G gNBs, suitable mobile phones and/or modems, or SIM/USIM/ISIM/CSIM cards.

Each license comes with the best possible support for using the software. Additional technical support packages are available on request. Further functions, components, or extensions of reference points can be developed within the scope of defined R&D projects with Fraunhofer FOKUS.

The Open6GCore team also offers coaching, training, tutorials on 6G core network concepts, 5G and support for local deployment and integration activities.

For each of the Open6GCore licenses, a set of best-practice configurations is provided, enabling immediate and intuitive demonstrations and practical know-how accumulation. For assessing other implementation architectures, the configuration can be further customized based on the documentation companion.

To further develop your ideas, components, architecture, and solutions, targeting the 6G ecosystem, Open6GCore source code is designed to be easily extended with new interfaces, protocols, parameters for the parameters, state machines and policy-based decisions.

Additionally, Open6GCore follows a full modular design, while completely implementing the main standard functionality for the different protocols, interfaces, and components, thus being a suitable counterpart in realizing a complete testing environment for the development of new prototypes and products or for realizing comprehensive testbeds by integrating only a part of the overall components.

In addition to technological development itself, a high degree of trust is necessary for the acceptance of 5G and 6G technologies in industry. With our long history in development of mobile networks, we gained experience and market orientation into developing new technologies with practical applicability. We are able to provide the following consultancy services as an addition to the basic research activities:

• Development of methodologies for assessing in the appropriate environment of the new 6G ecosystem including the definition of metrics and benchmarks, certifying the quality of a specific solution
• End-to-end benchmarking of specific solutions on top of different hardware platforms, with different software configurations and with the most appropriate mobility and load patterns
• Development of comprehensive evaluation frameworks, proving the specific value added of a solution from an independent evaluator
• Integration of the given prototypes, components or solutions within a complete ecosystem (provided by Open6GCore) to be able to perform end-to-end benchmarking
• Future-proof evaluations for products and solutions, for reducing the investment on updates and increasing the runtime duration for specific solutions
• Technology adoption roadmaps and integration with legacy

To give you a head start on technologies beyond 5G and 6G, we offer a comprehensive range of tutorials and training courses tailored to your expectations. We provide intuitive introductions to the technology and analyze its market acceptance and standardization.
